Femme - SOS single launch

Femme claimed the futurepop crown at her SOS single launch at The Lexington - delivering an exuberant mix of slick vocals, edgy electronic beats, and songs that stick, including the new release.

Femme - perfect pop tunes

The crowd were well warmed up by the time Femme took the stage, thanks to support acts the superb beatboxer Grace Savage, and then Ronika with 80s-influenced pop grooves.

Femme - Laura Bettinson - appeared in front of a sparkling curtain together with her ace dance team the Bullet Girls and Arveene on beats, and launched into a succession of perfect pop tunes.

There are shades of 60s girl groups in her sound, but the rap/spoken word elements, the leftfield beats - which she makes and produces herself - bring things right up to date. Together with the exuberant and glorious dance routines, it’s a seductive and joyful package.

Femme glittered her way through fan fave Fever Boy, instant classics such as Educated, and High, and a cover version of the Aretha Franklin hit R.e.s.p.e.c.t. She finished the main set with the beautifully catchy new release SOS, and then was back for an encore.

Femme may be cooking up electropop but she’s not giving you junk food - there’s enough bite in there to satisfy everyone from pop princesses to indie kids. With passionate fans, and stylista adoration - Vogue dubbed her ‘fashion’s favourite pop star’ - we’ll be seeing her on bigger stages soon.

Newly-signed to Trevor Horn’s legendary electronic label ZTT, home to the likes of Art Of Noise, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Grace Jones, Femme is more than ready to take her place among those pop icons.
