The Remix Space - Remix The World

Global Local is an Arts Council of England funded project that supports a diverse range of musicians and events, including an annual Global Local London Remixed Festival.

It recently launched The Remix Space - an online platform designed to encourage and support the creation of new music from artists’ existing material.

Four Global Local artists have each uploaded a track and are opening up their music to the digital world. Producers around the globe can get their hands on unreleased stems and submit their remixes for a chance to win the prize. The remixes feature on The Remix Space site and people can rate them.

THE FOUR TRACKS TO BE REMIXED:

Zion Train – Raise a Voice

Zion Train are Dub / Dance pioneers and have been undisputed leaders in the genre for the past two decades. The band were heavily involved in an alternative and DIY underground culture during the 1990s, mixing acid house electronic with vocalists and acoustic instruments.

Dila V & The Oddbeats – Fidayda

Multinational hip shimmering gypsy folk and psychedelia from far-away lands. This Bosporus-straddling blend of Turkish folk and irresistible Balkan dance beats comes with sinuous hints of Greek Rebetiko amongst other tasty world music flavours.

Forty Thieves Orkestar – Last Band Standing

An infectious infusion of Eastern melodies with sultry London beats; Forty Thieves Orkestar create a unique sound both on record and at their vibrant gigs. Their influences range from Balkan Gypsy music, to hip-hop and reggae.

Manière des Bohémiens - Monti Csardas

Energetic and improvised, Manière des Bohémiens are influence by Gypsy Jazz and European swing. They have been entertaining folks for many years with their infectious blend of manouche jazz and rough-edged, virtuosic eastern- european gyspy-folk music.

The competition winners receive £100, 25% of sales, and four of the best remixes will feature on a Global Local EP to be released later this year.

You can register here and the competition closes on 22nd August.
