Gretsch

Gretsch is a legendary company founded in Brooklyn, NY, in 1883 that started making banjos, drums and tambourines. Its guitars were particularly popular in the 50s and 60s for that rock ‘n’ roll twang, and were also widely used by rockabilly players. Gretsch-playing guitarists include Eddie Cochran, Duane Eddy, Lou Reed, The Stone Roses’ John Squire, The Cult’s Billy Duffy, The Airborne Toxic Event and Two Wounded Birds’ Joe Stevens. Artists using the drums include The Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts, Alabama Shakes’ Steve Johnson, Neon Trees’ Elaine Bradley and Two Wounded Birds’ James Shand. The company also makes Bigsby Vibratos and Sho-Bud Pedal Steel Guitars. Gretsch is still family-owned but has a deal with Fender for development, distribution and sales.
