Casio VL-1

Versatile is the word for this synth, sequencer and calculator first produced in 1980. It has distinctive and unrealistic lo-fi sounds - including piano, violin, guitar and a ‘fantasy’ voice. It has some rhythm settings such as bossanova and rock, along with a monophonic music sequencer. German band Trio featured it in Da Da Da - once heard, never forgotten. It’s also been used by The Human League, The Fall and more recently by dance artists.
