Roland G-707

In 1984 Roland shocked the world by producing the G-707. With its revolutionary design and futuristic looks, it has two humbuckers and a 25 1/2” neck, and plays like a conventional guitar. However, the feature that most makes it stand out is that it has a unique third pickup that converts the string signal into MIDI. This can then be used to trigger an infinite range of sounds and instruments - whether you choose an organ or samples. The guitar allows you to blend the synthesizer output with the guitar output, as well as tweak the tone of either the pickups or the midi signal. The guitar has been used by the likes of King Crimson, and the Police, and its functions remain yet to be fully explored to this day. In all, a bizarre and exciting hybrid instrument.
